Saplings: Nature for Small Groups (4 to 10 years)

Saplings is our small group programme designed especially for children with additional needs. Each child is welcome to come along with a parent, carer, friend, or relative; whoever helps them feel safe, supported, and at ease.

Our sessions take place in nature, offering a calm and nurturing space where children can explore and connect with the natural world. Through guided activities and meaningful interactions, we encourage personal growth, social development, and emotional well-being in a gentle, supportive way.

Sessions are held during term time on Monday afternoons 1.30pm to 3pm, within the safety and privacy of our woodland setting.

To ensure every child receives the care and attention they need, we run sessions with a minimum of five children and a maximum of eight per group.

Schools, Pre-schools and Nurseries

We can offer engaging outdoor learning sessions designed to complement the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and primary curriculum. Our aim is to inspire curiosity, support wellbeing, and help children learn through meaningful experiences in nature.

Expect hands-on activities that bring learning to life: minibeast hunts to explore habitats, natural art to spark creativity, den building to encourage teamwork, storytelling in the woods to develop language skills, and sensory play that supports physical development.

Each session is tailored to your setting and can be linked to key curriculum areas such as:

  • Science – life cycles, habitats, seasons, plants, and animals

  • Literacy – storytelling, descriptive language, imaginative play

  • Maths – patterns in nature, measuring, counting and comparing

  • Physical Development – fine and gross motor skills through climbing, balancing and building

  • Personal, Social & Emotional Development – teamwork, problem solving, resilience and confidence building

Whether it’s a one-off enrichment day or a regular programme, our sessions give children opportunities to explore, discover and learn in the natural world – building skills that last far beyond the classroom.
